An interior police officer has been caught on camera pushing and pepper spraying a man as he tried to break up a fight in an indigenous community.

The male officer and his female partner were in the remote town of Borroloola, 900 kilometers southeast of Darwin, on Tuesday when the drama unfolded.

Both Northern Territory police officers were quickly surrounded by an irritated crowd moments after a fight broke out.

During the commotion, the male officer is heard telling a man: ‘It’s our job to take care of the community, not listen to your s**t.’

Then he turns to another person and says: ‘We can’t let you fight anymore, stop it. We don’t care, we’ve had enough, no more fighting.

‘When someone is seriously injured, whose fault is it? Everybody has to stop,” the officer chimes in as she hears more people yelling at each other.

‘When someone’s jaw is broken or their skull fractured, do you know who cleans it? We do it,’ adds the male police officer.

The comment elicits a response from an angry man who says, “If you don’t like your job, quit, simple as that.”

The officer then approaches the man and tells him to “get out of my sight and fuck off.”

After a tense standoff, the officer pushes the man away and pepper-sprays him in the face.

He then tells the man he pepper sprayed “you’re in my face” repeatedly before walking off.

‘You know what, you want to fight? Go hard, don’t worry. Don’t call us,’ the male officer tells the community.
