A young couple has been miraculously saved by a fisherman after being lost at sea for three days.

Lorne Benussi, from the Queensland coastal town of Yeppoon, was on a fishing trip with his father when he came across the desperate couple.

He had anchored his boat in Yellow Patch on Curtis Island and went to sleep Monday night before hearing voices outside calling for help.

The couple had been away from North West Island, which is about 75 kilometers northeast of Gladstone, all along.

‘We turned on all the lights and saw a young couple floating on the tide…they were just floating on the water; they didn’t have a board or anything,’ he told the abc.

Benussi said the pair were “fucked up” and “barely kept their heads above water”.

The former commercial fisherman took the couple on board.

They had set up camp on the island on Saturday, but were washed away by the tide after swimming on their paddle boards.

After their rescue, Mr. Benussi gave them food, water and clean clothes. They also took hot showers.

More to come.
