Kevin McCarthy to investigate COVID and China, Afghanistan, and if the DoJ ‘has been weaponized’

In his first televised interview since being elected Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy revealed his schedule and joked that his tough fight to become Speaker of the House was “entertaining.”

McCarthy, who was elected president on January 7, insisted that the roller coaster ride to ensure his election was a healthy democracy in action and vowed to lead the House for all Americans.

However, he insisted that he had been chosen to bring the government “back under control” and restore confidence in the FBI and the Department of Justice.

He says he will spend the next two years investigating the origins of COVID and a possible Chinese cover-up; he discusses the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and explores the potential ‘weaponization’ of the FBI and Justice Department.

“We’ve seen them lose control with no control and no balance,” McCarthy said, speaking with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

He said the Justice Department had been “weaponized” and vowed to rein in the department.

McCarthy, 57, said he intended to orchestrate a full investigation into the origins of COVID and whether the Chinese had covered up its real origins.

Asked by Hannity if McCarthy’s group would investigate the work of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the retired chief medical adviser to Joe Biden, who served as NIAID director from 1984 to 2022, McCarthy said that would be part of his job.

‘Why don’t we know where COVID started?’ McCarthy asked.

They won’t have any hearing on it.

‘Why shouldn’t we know what happened in Afghanistan in the last two months? Thirteen gold star families have a right to know. But more importantly, this nation has a right to know so it never happens again.

‘We should know what happened to China and where the money is going. We know the documents are there.

“I think the country has a right to know that too. But the weaponization of what the FBI…

Hannity then interrupted and asked, ‘Fauci?’

McCarthy responded: ‘That goes directly to COVID. We have our own ability to monitor that and investigate it.

McCarthy was joined Tuesday night by Steve Scalise and Elise Stefanik.

The California representative said he intended, as president, to “hold the government accountable.”

He added: “For as long as the Democrats have been in power, all they’ve done is increase spending.”

He said Republicans intend to make the US-Mexico border a priority and introduce a Parents’ Bill of Rights to increase oversight of schools.

“We have to get our country under financial control,” McCarthy continued.

‘How do we do that? energy policy.

They pushed up the price of gasoline, but they weakened us all over the world. We will become energetically independent.’

McCarthy said that he and his fellow Republicans intended to “audit” all government spending and reduce waste.

He said the era of ‘blank checks’ was over and vowed to look at every dollar spent to ensure value for money.

“One of the biggest threats we have to our nation is our debt,” McCarthy said.

It makes us weak in all the places we can.

‘We have never been at this high level of debt to GDP, except during World War II.

‘What are we financing? A wasteful Washington who spends much of the time.

McCarthy compared it to a kid who was given a credit card and kept maxing it out to the limit.

He explained: ‘This is our time to change behavior to make sure hard-working taxpayers aren’t wasting their money. Are you going to tell me there’s no waste out there? Let’s see every dollar spent. Let’s audit it.
