Neil Warnock suggests Harry Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies with Saudi-backed Newcastle than Tottenham… but claims the England captain would cost the Magpies a staggering Ā£250m.

  • Harry Kane has had a brilliant career with Tottenham, scoring 265 goals.
  • However, the England captain has failed to win a trophy with his boyhood team.
  • Neil Warnock said he would have a better chance of success with Newcastle
  • However, the former manager was adamant that Kane would cost a staggering Ā£250m.

Neil Warnock has claimed that Harry Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies with Newcastle than he currently has at Tottenham.

Kane, 29, has spent his entire career with Spurs having gone through their youth academy.

He is one of the greatest players of all time, having scored 265 goals, one less than Tottenham’s all-time top scorer Jimmy Greaves.

Kane is also level with Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time top goalscorer, but while he has won a number of individual honors over the years, he has never won a senior trophy.

The striker has come close on several occasions, with Spurs losing in the Carabao Cup final in 2014-15 and 2020-21, while they were also beaten by Liverpool in the 2018-19 Champions League final.

Similarly, with England, Kane was runner-up at Euro 2020 while missing a decisive penalty in the Three Lions’ quarter-final loss to France in Qatar last month.

And Warnock believes the 29-year-old, who has repeatedly expressed his desperation to win trophies, would be better suited to achieve this goal with Newcastle, who have transformed since their Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021.

Asked if this would be the case, the retired manager told talkSPORT: “Yeah, it probably is.”

Especially with the future drawing near. I tipped them (Newcastle) in pre-season to finish in the top four, but they stuck to it.

“The defensive situation is as good as I’ve seen against a very good Arsenal team (Newcastle drew 0-0 with the Gunners last week).”

Kane came close to leaving his childhood club in the summer of 2021 when he expressed his desire to leave Tottenham.

Manchester City made an offer for the striker but it was flatly rejected, and after he failed to show up for pre-season and missed his team’s first two games of the campaign, they finally announced he would stay in north London. .

And Warnock referenced that failed move, insisting that if Newcastle moved for the England captain, it would take a ridiculous amount of money.

He added: ‘I always thought of Man City, if they could have had Kane last year. But look what they’ve done instead, I mean wow, Haaland is amazing isn’t he?

“If Newcastle could get Kane, that would be fantastic, but that’s going to cost… imagine dealing with Daniel Levy for Harry Kane, that’s going to cost Ā£250m, isn’t it?”

Tottenham secured their place in the FA Cup Fourth Round after beating Portsmouth 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Kane’s goal, while also staying in the Champions League in their quest for trophies.

Meanwhile, Newcastle face Leicester City on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, as Eddie Howe’s side continue their quest to secure their first major trophy since the FA Cup in the 1954-55 season, although they have won the Championship (twice) and the Intertoto Cup in the meantime.
