Rosie Jacobs ‘going through family trauma’ after being stopped for driving on suspended licence

The ex-wife of TV meteorologist Steve Jacobs told police she was unwell and “going through a lot right now” when she was pulled over in Sydney driving her Audi Q3 with a suspended licence.

Rosie Jacobs was allegedly caught driving while her license was suspended three times in three months, including twice in four days.

The 43-year-old travel journalist recently celebrated a year of sobriety after a well-documented battle with alcohol, but it seems her troubles are far from over.

Jacobs was behind the wheel of his white SUV in Darlinghurst city center on August 25 when police realized he shouldn’t be on the road.

The ex-wife of former Today meteorologist Steve Jacobs was allegedly caught driving with a suspended license three times in three months, including twice in four days.

The single mother of two license had previously been denied in August 2021, but she was allowed to drive under “good behavior conditions”, which were granted until August last year.

“From the moment of requesting and obtaining the conditions of good conduct, [Jacobs] he incurred five traffic violations, later annulling his conditions of good conduct,’ the court documents state.

His license was then suspended from May 13, 2022 to March 12, 2023 due to an accumulation of demerit points for multiple offenses.

Jacobs told police who questioned her in Darlinghurst that she was unaware her driving privileges had been withdrawn.

‘[Jacobs] reported that he has not moved residence recently, although he has not recently checked his mailbox to see if he received a notice of suspension,” the court documents state.

Rosie married Steve Jacobs in 2010, three years after they met on the set of Today, where he was a star weather presenter and she was a behind-the-scenes producer. The couple (above) separated in late 2017 and divorced in 2019.

On November 25, Jacobs was driving the Audi again on Campbell Parade in Bondi Beach, near his home, when an automated license plate check alerted police to the status of his license.

A highway patrol officer stopped her on Queen Elizabeth Drive and produced a digital copy of her suspended permit.

‘The police warned [Jacobs] and stated that [Jacobs] she had been detained by other police officers on August 25, to which she nodded her head, according to court documents. “The defendant only said: ‘I would prefer not to comment.'”

Jacobs was then issued a second court attendance notice for driving while suspended.

“In serving the notice on the defendant, she said, ‘I’m going through a lot right now,’ and ‘I’m not okay,'” court documents state.

“The defendant appeared to be going through a period of illness and family trauma and was distraught upon being arrested for the offence.”

Four days later, on the evening of November 29, Jacobs was arrested in Randwick and charged with a third count of driving with a suspended license.

She has pleaded guilty to the first two offenses and is set to be sentenced this week at Downing Center Local Court on all three counts.

The case was previously adjourned in order for Jacobs to participate in a traffic violator program.

Jacobs began her career as a television producer and has hosted shows for the Nine and Ten Networks, Foxtel and The Weather Channel.

She married Steve in 2010, three years after they met on the set of Today, where he was a star weather presenter and she worked behind the scenes as a producer.

The couple separated in late 2017, months after moving to Vanuatu in what friends described as a “last ditch attempt” to save their marriage, and divorced in 2019.
