Travelers flock to an idyllic destination less than an hour from Sydney after one tourist compared it to the Whitsundays, but not everyone agrees.

Nat Explores uploaded a Tik Tok Video showing the crystal clear waters and lush greenery of the Minnamurra River, a popular water sports destination in Kiama on the south coast of New South Wales.

But locals and visitors alike were quick to comment on the woman’s post, warning that the estuary isn’t quite as picture-perfect as it appears.

“Sorry, but that doesn’t look like the Whitsundays at all,” said one man.

‘Hahaha enjoy the bull sharks and I’ve even seen thrasher sharks there. I’m a local and enter at your own risk,” another commented.

Fans of water sports rave about the destination for kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and fishing.

‘Nice long river, great place to spend a day on the water exploring and fishing. Plenty of places to have a picnic. Very quiet area that I return to all year long,” wrote one man.

‘Great place for water sports, or just a great view while walking or exercising. Walking down to the river is nice. Clean and safe area,” said a woman.

However, not everyone agrees that the river is similar to the Whitsundays, and some locals are even warning adventurers against visiting during the holidays.

“The locals don’t want people to go here just saying,” said one woman.

“Nooooo, don’t tell everyone,” wrote another local.

“I’ve been to some nice places like this in South Sydney, but I prefer to keep most of them quiet because I don’t want it to be crowded like Sydney,” one man commented.
