Olivia Colman looks sophisticated yet stylish in a long black dress at screening of Empire Of Light

Olivia Colman looked sophisticated yet stylish as she attended a special screening of her new film Empire of Light at Westgate-on-Sea, Kent on Sunday.

The 48-year-old actress opted for a long black dress to mark the occasion, which was punctuated by white stitching and gold buttons on both shoulders.

She looked effortlessly chic in the black number, as she paired the look with large gold earrings and gold necklaces.

Keeping her appearance modest, Olivia added some black leather boots that added inches to her slim frame.

Olivia kept rocking her cropped haircut, opting for a hint of eyeliner and soft red lips for her makeup.

Arriving at the event in Kent, where the film was last filmed, he chose a checkered wool coat to withstand the cold.

Also present at the event was film director Sam Mendes, 57, who looked dapper in all black.

Sam styled her ominous look with a gray coat, gray checkered scarf, and brown-tinted glasses.

Co-star Toby Jones joined the pair as the trio laughed and smiled at each other.

The Sam Mendes-directed romantic drama stars Olivia as a film director, Hilary, who develops a relationship with a ticket salesman, Stephen, played by a much younger Michael.

The actress recently revealed that she tried to cut her raunchy scenes with on-screen lover Michael Ward, 25, from her new movie Empire Of Light.

Speaking about her ’embarrassment’, Olivia said: ‘I always wanted Sam to take out the sex scenes because she was so embarrassed.’

“I said, ‘Why can’t they just go for the kiss, and cut it off, and then pretend it’s already happened?’ she continued.

“Michael was much more mature than me and helped me deal with my nerves.”

These comments also come after Olivia opened up about the moment she found out that Michael’s real mother is five years her junior.

Olivia and Michael discussed some “slightly embarrassing” moments during filming while speaking on The Graham Norton Show.

Olivia said of the intimate scenes: “There was a moment in particular when I was straddling Michael in a compromising and slightly embarrassing situation and he said, ‘Today is my mother’s birthday.'”

When he said he was 43 years old, I said, “Okay, stop talking!”

Speaking further about the film, when asked if her role was written especially for her, Olivia said, “Apparently it was.” But Sam is so nice that he would say that anyway. He was watching The Crown at the time and he thought of me.

“We had a Zoom conversation during lockdown and I was like ‘okay yeah’ before I knew what it was about. It’s an incredible honor for him to write something for me.’

He added jokingly: “That was an amazing part, thank God. Can you imagine if it was rubbish?”

Michael, speaking about working with Olivia, said later on the show: “It was an amazing experience. It was amazing sharing the same space. I learned so much about being a real person – everyone had a real sense of humanity.

“If Olivia had been rude, I might have thought that this is how I need to be to achieve a certain level of success, but the fact that she is so charming showed me that I can be a good person and still be successful.”

Empire Of Light is a love story ‘set in a beautiful old cinema on the south coast of England in the 1980s’.

Filming for the project began in early February in Margate. The seaside town was transported to the 1980s when developers transformed the area surrounding Dreamland amusement park.
