Wealthy young woman slammed as cruel after blocking wedding cheque

A wealthy young woman has been branded selfish and cruel by her loved ones after walking out on her friend’s wedding and canceling the check she had given her as a gift.
The woman said she had given $15,000 to the bride and groom to help them with rising fertility costs so they could continue trying to start a family.
But he decided to get the money back after the girlfriend, who is her husband’s cousin and has been his friend for 10 years, made a comment about the ‘little package’.
A wealthy young woman has been criticized as selfish after receiving a generous wedding gift because the bride was ungrateful before opening it.
publish in RedditThe 28-year-old woman said she and her husband, 29, chose to go “off the script” rather than buy something on the couple’s registry.
“I went to the wedding registry and they had a lot of expensive stuff, the cheapest was around $150,” she said.
He added that the couple had requested gifts in advance, as a condition of entering their wedding party.
So they were upset when they noticed the woman’s name wasn’t listed next to one of the expensive shortlisted gifts.
“When we arrived, he asked us why we weren’t buying anything from the registry when everyone else was and why we had such a small box in our hand,” the woman said.
“I told her that we had something special for her and that she would appreciate it much more than the material things we saw in the registry,” he said.
“She laughed and said it was funny that we probably had the most money, but we decided to be cheap jerks.”
The woman said the bride made a scene before snatching the small gift from her hands.
“My husband and I went out and I quickly canceled the check,” she said.
The woman said the bride and groom had recently mentioned that the fertility treatment would cost $10,000, she decided to add an additional $5,000 to help them with any other money struggles.
“After realizing what was in the box, he apologized for shaming us and throwing us out via text message and when he tried to deposit it, it obviously didn’t work,” the woman explained.
“She has been blowing up our phones saying how horrible we are and how we are taking away her dreams of starting a family.”
The woman added that family and friends have told her that she needs to return the money, as they can easily afford it and it was a gift.
“Although I feel bad, I am disgusted by his reaction and I refuse to be in a relationship with someone who is clearly in our lives for our money,” she said.
And the folks at Reddit agreed.
She was ridiculously rude. It doesn’t matter how rich you are. It’s incredibly rude to make fun of someone because a gift isn’t as great as you think it should be. And even now, she can’t see that she caused this. You are better off without her in your life,” one man said.
The woman is now fighting with her friends about whether she is wrong for canceling the check.
‘Not much of the same give and take here, it’s all ‘taking’ by the cousin (literally snatching things out of OP’s hands!). OP needs to get this person and this event out of his mind. He will have a better life in the future without this toxicity,” a woman agreed.
‘And the bride knew by heart who had not yet sent a gift. And she thought it appropriate to confront the wedding guests about the gifts. I can’t imagine being so rude to the guests, your family and closest friends,” said one woman.
Others said they had heard similar sickening stories, including a grandson who complained that his wealthy grandparents bought a ‘cheap’ gift from the registry.
Only to be told later that they were planning to give him a healthy check as well.
Some people could not believe that the bride and groom gave a gift as a requirement to attend the wedding.
All guests were to receive gifts. Sorry? REQUIRED? I would not have given them any gifts, just for that,” wrote one.
‘It seems that it is not an uncommon demand of Bridezilla. Some even set ‘minimum values’ and require large gifts from members of the wedding party! It’s crazy,’ said another.
The young woman admitted to being “a bit petty” after the fact.
“I donated about the same amount of money to a charity that helps with girls’ education around the world and I posted it on Facebook… my husband shared my post too (we have common pettiness), she’s pissed off and so is it is”. my husband’s family.
