Tottenham continue their search for Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards from Sporting Lisbon.

However, the Portuguese giants continue to block any transfer unless the release clauses of the players are met.

Porro, 23, has a £40m release clause while Edwards, the former Spurs trainee, has a £52m release clause, but the club still has a 50 per cent sale as part from your previous transfer.

Spurs have been left thin in attack after injuries to Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, with only Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as first-choice options.

Porro, previously on the books for Manchester City, is deployed as a full-back at Sporting in a similar fashion to Spurs’ Matt Doherty, while Edwards is an attacking midfielder.

Edwards, 24, is a newcomer to the Portuguese capital, having moved from Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2022 after proving himself in the Primeira Liga.

But since then he has racked up 12 goals and 12 assists in 39 games in all competitions, including his side’s stellar performance against Spurs in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Porro has made 93 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte insists that the club must invest in the transfer market if it wants to challenge for the title.

Speaking after Spurs’ New Year’s Day loss to Aston Villa, he said: “I was very clear with the club, because I remember very well in the summer, people were talking about Tottenham as a title contender,” Conte said after the defeat.

‘It was kind of crazy reading this. To become a title contender, to become a team ready to fight to win something, you need to have a solid foundation.’
