Her debut collection for Runaway The Label was a tribute to the warmer months ahead and couldn’t have come at a better time as the festive season made its long-awaited return.

“With the colors that we have used in the range, I like to describe the collection as an Italian ice cream parlor. We have incorporated soft colors like butter yellow, baby pink, lilac and aquamarine,” said Russian.

“For me, these colors represent summer and take me back to a long European getaway. In a way, I’ve tried to inject those good memories into this collection.’

Russian closely followed emerging trends and noticed more sequins than ever before on the runway, so they played a pivotal role in the collection.

She combined her love of a classic silhouette, injecting it with sequins to create a modern and contemporary collection.

‘Years ago you would have seen dresses made with colored sequins. But with this collection, I went with clear sequins but highlighted them with a colored fabric, which gives you the illusion of colored sequins,” Russian said.

She continued: “It’s a fresh take on sequin work and gives the garment a more modern look.”

Russian also drew inspiration from the ’90s and ’00s, noting that when it comes to fashion, everything always comes full circle.

‘The silhouettes we saw in the 90s are back in fashion. That’s why I try not to overcomplicate the designs and keep things simple.’
