Wednesday’s Netflix hit has been officially renewed for a second season, after becoming one of the streaming platform’s most successful shows.

The Addams Family spin-off centers on gothic teen Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, as she moves to Nevermore Academy.

In an interview with tudum.com On Friday, creators/showrunners/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said: ‘It’s been amazing creating a show that has connected with people all over the world.

“Delighted to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two.”

Following its first week of broadcast in November, the show racked up a record 341.2 million hours of viewing, surpassing Stranger Things, according to Netflix.

It is also the number 1 show in 83 countries, tied with Stranger Things.

Netflix said in a tweet on Tuesday: “Wednesday now holds the record for most hours watched in a week for an English-language series on Netflix, with 341.2 MILLION HOURS!”

“The series, starring Jenna Ortega from executive producers Tim Burton, Al Gough and Miles Millar, is #1 in 83 countries, tying the record set by Stranger Things 4.”

It landed on Netflix earlier this month and rocketed straight to the top of the most watched list, beating The Crown, 1899 and Dead to Me.

The hair-raising drama sees Catherine Zeta-Jones playing the original Morticia, and her husband Gomez played by Luis Guzmán, along with Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).

Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday on The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values ​​(1993) also makes a cameo on the Netflix show as teacher Miss Thornhill.

The show’s executive producer confirmed that a second season Wednesday could be on the cards.

Alfred Gough previously hinted at a possible follow-up by saying that “there’s definitely more you can explore in the world of the Addamses.”

In an interview with tv lineMillar also confirmed that talks are taking place, with producers willing to focus on other members of the family, rather than just Wednesday.

It comes after viewers were shocked by how the Things scenes for the show were filmed.

Netflix gave audiences at home a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the latest blockbuster show on Sunday.

Photographs posted on the streaming giant’s Twitter account showed actor Victor Dorobantu wearing a bare-handed blue-screen suit.
