‘The things we do for points! I am buying a $3,000 treadmill from Rebel and was waiting for a 20 point offer,” the buyer wrote in a to post to the Qantas Point Collectors Facebook group.

“Two days, six different Woolworths and used my own account, my partner’s account and my daughter’s account to stay within the limit of 10 per day per customer.”

The gift cards totaled $2,850 and earned her 60,000 Woolworths Daily Rewards points or 30,000 Qantas frequent flyer points.

‘30,000 points already in my Qantas account. Plus 3000 extra for buying the cards on my Qantas AmEx. Not bad for something I was going to buy anyway! She explained.

The gift cards totaled $2,850 and earned her 60,000 Woolworths Everyday Rewards points or 30,000 Qantas frequent flyer points that can be used to purchase flights.

Woolworths occasionally has offers that allow customers to earn 20 times more points when they purchase a gift card that is advertised in the weekly catalog or through in-store signage.

Each Everyday Rewards point is worth half a Qantas point which can then be used to purchase discounted flights.

People in the comments were split on the woman’s ‘painful’ money-saving tactics.

“I’d love to see the payer’s face when you show up with all those cards,” one member replied.

‘It’s painful to even read how you did it,’ said a second and a third wrote: ‘They must LOVE YOU in Rebel… no!’

Gift cards and reward points: How does it work?

When you shop at Woolworths, you’ll typically earn one daily rewards point (worth half a Qantas point) for every dollar spent on groceries. It’s a similar story when you shop at Coles, where you can earn one Flybuys point (worth half a Velocity point) for every $1.

In accordance with the terms and conditions of the Everyday Rewards and Flybuys loyalty programs, gift cards are normally excluded from earning points. However, there is an exception during special promotions, and you can earn much more than one point per dollar.

Every few weeks, Woolworths and Coles run special offers that allow you to earn 10 or even 20 daily rewards points or Flybuys per dollar spent on specific types of gift cards. By accumulating 20 Everyday Rewards points on gift cards, for example, that’s the equivalent of earning 10 Qantas points per dollar.

After you purchase gift cards, you can spend them like cash at stores where gift cards are accepted.

The main benefit of doing this is the bonus points. As an added bonus, you may even be able to save on credit card fees when you purchase the Coles or Woolies gift card with your credit card and then redeem it, with no payment fee, at a retailer that typically has credit card fees. credit card or maybe do not accept American Express.

‘Hmm. I need a new laptop. This could be the way to go! said a woman.

‘Wow, that’s dedication,’ commented a second and another agreed that the effort was ‘well worth it’.

One points collector warned that some stores have limits on the number of gift cards customers can use in one transaction.

‘Did you check in the booth that there is no limit to the number of cards you can use? I know that online we can only use Rebel and a maximum of three”, they asked.

“I spoke to the manager before buying the cards and he said everything is fine,” the frequent traveler replied.
