The audience of the popular daytime talk show The View was reportedly instructed to cheer on Whoopi Goldberg when she took the stage to make her feel like the “star of the show” at a January live taping.
An informant told the US sun that warm-up comedian Regina DeCicco specifically told the audience to give Goldberg a big round of applause and then continue to applaud the other hosts.
It has been claimed that the loud applause was an attempt by the team members to make Goldberg feel “special”.
It comes after the talk show’s moderator was criticized for “offensive comments” last year, leading to a two-week suspension; many called for Goldberg to be fired at the time.
The audience of the popular daytime talk show, The View, was reportedly instructed to cheer on Whoopi Goldberg when she took the stage to make her feel like the ‘star of the show’ at a live taping on January 4.
‘The Crowd Warming Comedian [Regina DeCicco] He specifically told everyone to give Whoopi a big round of applause and then continue to applaud the other hosts,” The View’s source told the US Sun.
“It seemed like the team wanted Whoopi to get a standing ovation to make her feel like the star of the show.”
The treatment lines up with the crew’s past behavior, such as when they celebrated her with an episode of birthday extravaganza filled with drag queens, massive giveaways, and their Whoopi Prosecco.
Asked if the 67-year-old TV personality got “special treatment,” the source said that “when they went on the commercial break, he got just as much touch-ups as the other co-hosts.”
“The only difference is that the camera focuses on her first after returning from the commercials, since she is the moderator,” the source said.
The treatment lines up with the crew’s past behavior, such as when they celebrated her with a birthday extravaganza episode and she is repeatedly seen talking to the co-hosts with complete nonchalance.
Goldberg has been the main co-host of The View for the past 15 years.
It comes after the talk show’s moderator was criticized for “offensive comments” last year, leading to a two-week suspension; many called for Goldberg to be fired at the time. She apologized at the time for her, but defended her comments months later.
“He also behaved as if he had the authority to talk about the other co-hosts and interrupt them.”
The View moderator is joined by Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro.
Fans watched Goldberg repeatedly talk about Sunny during Wednesday’s live show, behavior that came as no surprise to viewers who tune in every day.
“Behind the scenes, Whoopi seemed friendly to the co-hosts. He would talk to Sara more as they sit next to each other,” the source shared.
In February of last year, Whoopi was suspended from The View for two weeks for what ABC called her “misguided and hurtful comments” about the Jewish people and the Holocaust that she made on the show in late January.
Then last month, Whoopi apparently repeated his claim about the Holocaust, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated six million Jews between 1941 and 1945.
In an interview with The Times of London, Whoopi said: ‘My best friend said: ‘Not surprisingly, there is no box on the census for the Jewish race. That leads me to believe that we are probably not a race.
Surviving children in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp after liberation, 1945. Godlberg said it was not an act of racism because it involved two white groups.
He apologized for his comments, saying they were an attempt to “get across to the reporter what he had said and why, and he tried to recount that moment,” referring to his comments in early 2022.
“It was never my intention to seem like I was doubling down on hurtful comments,” she added, saying she had spoken to and listened to many people in the Jewish community, who raised her.
“I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I listened to everything everyone told me,” he explained.
Fans demanded that she be fired for her ‘offensive’ comments early last year, many of whom took to Twitter to express their disappointment.
One person wrote: ‘@TheView Whoopi Goldberg has repeated the insult that got her banned from her show.
‘So now is the time to make the suspension permanent. She clearly learned none of his hateful rhetoric. #disgusted.’
Another follower raged: ‘Here Whoopi Goldberg talks about ABC and Jews again! When will he learn it? She needs to be banned from TV completely, no one wants to hear her’ BS from her.
A third claimed: ‘@TheView bringing American viewers their daily dose of racism. #Holocaust #WhoopiGoldberg #racism.’
Despite fans wanting her taken off the air, Goldberg’s four-year contract remains intact and won’t expire until the summer of 2025.
