Harry Hamlin, 71, took a psychedelic drug before starting college… prompting him to shift his focus from architecture to acting.

Harry Hamlin has enjoyed a career spanning five decades and counts as a successful actor.

But it might not have turned out that way if it hadn’t been for a pivotal moment in his life, when he took a psychedelic given to him by a stranger.

The 71-year-old actor explained that he was originally supposed to study architecture, but after a road trip to “one of the most magical places on Earth” and a “blue pill”, he began studying acting instead, according to People.

He told the outlet that two days before he registered for architecture classes at UC Berkeley, he was invited to go on a road trip.

Harry said it took him “to one of the most magical places on Earth.”

He and his friends traveled to La Honda, California and stayed in a hidden compound that had tree houses.

While there, Harry said that a Hell’s Angel came and asked for a wrench while he and his friends sat around a campfire.

Harry said the man brought ‘blue pills’ and gave each person a psychedelic to express his gratitude for their help.

“I started to see things in a different way and my curiosity kicked into overdrive,” she explained.

Ended up missing the first day of registration due to the spontaneous road trip.

“By the time I got there, some guy said that the classes had filled up, but if I rushed to the theater department, I could satisfy my requirements,” he said.

“I ended up in Acting 101. I never went back to architecture school,” Harry said.

Harry revealed that he still takes acting classes: “I’ve been studying at the Beverly Hills Playhouse on and off for 40 years and that class has now morphed into a new class at the Hudson Theatre.”

The father of three is currently studying Shakespeare’s King Lear during the class he takes on Saturdays.

Harry will star in Anne Rice’s upcoming AMC series Mayfair Witches, which will premiere on January 8, 2023.

The actor is the father of three children: a son, named Dmitri, 42, with Ursula Andress and two daughters with his wife Lisa Rinna: Delilah Belle, 24, and Amelia Gray, 21.
