Payne Haas will take a personal leave of absence from the Broncos until January 16 after his mother was charged for her alleged role in a car crash that killed three people.

On Monday, Detective Sergeant Major Mark Procter said police would further allege that Taufua’s vehicle was driven in an extremely dangerous manner on the wrong side of the road at high speeds.

Haas is coming off a stellar season and was the only Broncos player selected on the Dally M.

He also joined champion running back Allan Langer as the second player in history to receive the Broncos’ best and fairest award four times in a row.

Haas accomplished the impressive feat at just 22 years old.
