The baker who made the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding cake has revealed a new addition of a £244 double-tier strawberry buttercream floral cake made for Lilibet’s first birthday.
Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, basked in the British summer sun and threw a ‘laid back’ garden party in June for their daughter at the Windsor estate complete with birthday cake, balloons, games of party and picnic snacks.
East London baker Claire Ptak, who baked the couple’s wedding cake in 2018, created delights for the low-key party, including a double-tiered cake that featured a seasonal strawberry buttercream.
And yesterday, she shared a new snapshot of the cake on Instagram as part of a 2022 highlight video, saying: ‘Our greatest hits of 2022. Thank you to all of our customers and supporters last year for inspiring such beautiful work.

In the snap, she can be seen placing a pink peony on the cake, which featured the young man’s name.
It was topped with an Amalfi lemon elderflower filling and topped with a light buttercream.
On the bakeries website, the cake is described as having “three layers of vanilla sponge cake drizzled with elderflower syrup and filled with Amalfi lemon curd.”

The top and sides of the cake are “glazed with a buttercream scented with the juice and zest of Amalfi Coast lemons, and decorated with chopped candied Amalfi lemon peel.”
At the time, Claire, who owns the bakery and who painstakingly designed the incredible cake, wrote on the brand’s Instagram: “It was an absolute pleasure to make this special cake last week for Lilibet’s birthday.”

She added: “The inside was the Amalfi Lemon Elderflower Cake I created for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess in 2018, but this time we topped it with a strawberry buttercream especially for Lilibet.”

Apparently among the gifts for the little guy was a pastel pink VW Beetle car, £75 from Selfridges, while Sussex supporters donated $100,000 to charity in his honour.

A royal told the Mirror: ‘It all feels very repetitive. Harry’s constant sniping is pretty tiring and he knows full well that they’re highly unlikely to engage in a tit-for-tat battle of words.
