Annastacia Palaszczuk is taking a three-week overseas holiday, her first since becoming Queensland’s premier, one day after the Sea World helicopter crash.

The premier made the surprise announcement on Tuesday, explaining her need to take a long social media break.

“After a very busy two years in Queensland I will be taking personal leave until January 23rd to spend time with family,” the post read.

It is Ms Palaszczuk’s first holiday abroad since she became state prime minister in 2015 and it is believed she will spend the time visiting relatives abroad.

Ms Palaszczuk's announcement comes just one day after news of a tragic helicopter crash (pictured) at Sea World on the Gold Coast that killed four people and left tourists horrified.

The prime minister stated that she was “confident” that Deputy Prime Minister Steven Miles could “handle any issues that might arise” during her time away.

Ms Palaszczuk began her holiday one day after four people were killed when two helicopters collided at Sea World on the Gold Coast.

The collision caused one of the planes to crash into a sandbar, but the other was able to land with only minor injuries to all six people on board.

British couple Ron, 65, and Diane Hughes, 57, Sydney’s mother Vanessa Tadros, 36, and pilot Ash Jenkinson died.

Ms Palaszczuk's Facebook followers mostly praised the announcement, but others criticized the prime minister for leaving the state while grappling with a crime crisis.

Ms Palaszczuk’s Facebook followers reacted mainly with praise and gratitude for the prime minister, calling her vacation announcement a “well-deserved break.”

Ms Palaszczuk faced severe criticism last year when insiders claimed she had ‘retired’ from her role and was more interested in socializing and being on the red carpet.

Labor stalwart Peter Beattie urged her to start a new agenda to show she still wanted to be Prime Minister.

Then the prime minister was slapped with another wake up call after a scathing report on his government’s culture and public sector responsibility was issued in June 2022.
