She said that she and her boyfriend have been dating for 11 months and will spend their first Christmas together with their family.

It will be only the second time that the father has met his new partner’s family, so he thought that including his children, aged seven and 11, could be “stressful” and “might not be the best idea”.

“I suggested that he let them spend Christmas with their mother while he attended my family’s Christmas alone,” he explained.

“He took offense and took it as me hiding/excluding his children from my family.”

She told him she didn’t want to “expose” the children to any “awkward moments” between him and his family on their first vacation together, as they don’t know each other very well.

“He got upset and said he felt sad for the kids at my suggestion and told me it’s his turn to have them this year and he won’t spend it away from them,” she wrote.
