Zach Wilson set to start again for the New York Jets in game against Jacksonville Jaguars

Zach Wilson is set to start for the New York Jets in Thursday night’s must-win game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with Mike White AGAIN ruled out despite his desperate efforts to face the Detroit Lions last Sunday.

Zach Wilson will again be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

Head coach Robert Saleh announced the decision Tuesday due to the condition of Mike White’s ribs, which were fractured nine days ago against the Buffalo Bills. White also missed last week’s game against the Detroit Lions because he couldn’t get clearance from doctors to play.

Meanwhile, Saleh is doing everything he can to support Wilson, who was benched and listed as inactive for three games before White was hurt.

“There are quarterbacks throughout history who needed a little bit more time to find their rhythm,” Saleh said.

So when you see Zach, he’s got a lot of things that you just can’t show. You just can’t teach some of the things he does.

‘For him, it’s just learning the timing and rhythm aspect, the passing game in between and finding that consistency over four quarters. When he’s in the rhythm, and he’s hitting full steam ahead, it’s great to watch.’

In his return to the lineup, Wilson had mixed results. The sophomore QB passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns, but missed several wide receivers and threw a costly interception in the third quarter.

He also lacked accuracy at times and finished the game with a season-high 35.3 off-target percentage, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

Wilson returned to the lineup following a three-week demotion to third-string quarterback.

A similar showing likely won’t be enough for Wilson to get his job back permanently, considering coaches still expected White to start until the last-minute announcement that he would be ruled out on Friday.

“It’s all for Mike to give him a chance to get a second opinion and for him and his team to make sure all the boxes are checked,” Saleh said.

‘From our point of view as coaches, we are allowing that process to happen. When everything lines up, then we make a decision.’

Saleh also said the team hasn’t ruled White out for the final two games of the season, calling it a “week-by-week evaluation.”

Due to a combination of Wilson being injured early in the year and disappointingly ineffective upon his return, the Jets were forced to start three different QBS this season.

Wilson has gone 5-3 as a starter, while Joe Flacco has gone 1-2 and White is 1-2.

In other injury news, Jets star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is currently being considered a game-time decision as Saleh seemed optimistic his star manager could return from a calf injury.
