Jason Momoa explores rock climbing his new HBO Max series The Climb: ‘It just opens your mind’

Jason Momoa isn’t afraid to live on the edge.

The 43-year-old Aquaman star was spotted in a new preview of his HBO series The Climb, in which amateur climbers endure a series of mental and physical exercises in a contest for a $100,000 prize and sponsorship from prAna.

“Climbing, it’s so ingrained in my soul, it just opens your mind,” said Momoa, who is slated to team up with John Cena in the comedy Killer Vacation.

In the preview clip for the eight-episode series, Momoa appears alongside famed climber Chris Sharma.

In one sequence, Momoa and Chris Sharma were seen hanging from towering granite walls and descending into the ocean.

“We have decided to start a competition to inspire the next generation of climbers,” said Sharma. And we’ve recruited champion climber Meagan Martin.

The preview clip showed a group of 10 people boarding boats at night en route to Mallorca in the Balearic Islands.

Sharma explained of the craft: “When you push your limits, most of the time you fail, but once in a while it happens, that’s where the magic happens.”

Sharna told the contestants, “We’re going to keep you on your toes, no pun intended.”

Highlights from the trailer include climbers scaling 70 feet up Spain’s Patiasso al Pallaso, some falling from the heights.

Sharma explained, “When you’re pushing your limits, most of the time you fail, but once in a while it happens, that’s where the magic happens.”

HBO Max initially ordered the show in July 2021, with Momoa saying in a press release, “It’s a dream come true to create a show with one of my idols, my good friend and legendary rock climber Chris Sharma.”

Momoa said that he repeatedly resorted to rock climbing in training for his films.

The show with the A-list action star will debut on HBO Max on January 12.

Momoa is slated to appear in next year’s anticipated sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

“I am thrilled to partner with HBO Max and produce alongside IPC to bring you this amazing show about my favorite sport, rock climbing.”

Momoa told the outlet Well-informed person in October 2021 that he repeatedly resorted to rock climbing in training for his films.

“There are so many things that I’ve learned from climbing that this is incredible, it’s such a beautiful thing to be able to share,” Momoa said.

The Climb is scheduled to debut on HBO Max on January 12.
