Stephen Curry ‘will miss a few weeks’ with a shoulder injury after a collision in the Golden State Warriors’ loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday

The reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for ‘a few weeks’ while he recovers from a shoulder injury,’ according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The team made the announcement Thursday after the reigning Finals MVP was hurt in a loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

Curry scored 27 of his 38 points in the first half, but left with 2:04 remaining in the third while holding his left shoulder. He had collided with the Pacers’ Jalen Smith just moments before.

Curry was injured with about two minutes left in the third quarter as the Warriors tried to rally from a 20-point halftime deficit. His three-point play with 4:16 to go in the third put Golden State within 83-80.

But when Pacers forward Jalen Smith dribbled toward the baseline, Curry tried to stop him by sticking out his left arm. Smith continued, and Curry’s arm snapped back awkwardly. Curry grabbed his shoulder while he was hunched over on the court, then walked to the locker room during the ensuing timeout.

“The coaches told me in the middle of the fourth quarter that he wasn’t coming back,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. I trust his judgment. I only spoke to him briefly after the game, so I haven’t had a chance to talk to him yet.

Curry took no questions after scoring 38 points, making five 3-pointers and all 11 free throws. He is not expected to speak to reporters again until Friday, when the defending NBA champions visit Philadelphia for the third leg of a six-game trip.

He appeared in a lot of pain and it was later revealed that he is scheduled for an MRI on Friday.

The Warriors have already lost their first two games on their longest road trip to the East of the season. Now they can be without their best player as they try to get back above .500.

“This is a tough stretch of the season and if Steph is out it sure gets tougher,” Kerr said. If we’re healthy I feel like we can beat anyone, I think this team has shown that. We just have to find a way to get there.

Curry was his usual sensational self while in the game. He was responsible for half of the Warriors’ 54 first-half points and finished with seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Thanks to Curry, the Warriors still had a chance.

“He basically put us on his shoulders for the few minutes he was out there,” Kerr said. “She was getting to the line, finding other people and I thought the guys did a great job fighting.”

But if Curry misses any significant time, the Warriors won’t be the same.

“Steph is always a guy with a great outlook on life,” Kerr said. So we hope for the best.
