Alison Hammond ultimately beat out Ant and Dec to be crowned the nation’s most beloved TV host after her co-host, Dermot O’Leary, surprised her with an award live on This Morning.

The 47-year-old television personality just missed out on the Best Presenter award at the National Television Awards in October, when Ant and Dec once again scooped the award.

But now she has surpassed them in the post after being presented with the title by the first ever Entertainment Daily Awards on Thursday morning.

He faced fellow presenters Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Josie Gibson, Ant McPartlin, Declan Donnelly, Stephen Mulhern, Steph McGovern and Joel Dommett.

Alison secured her victory over the other eight nominees with a whopping 25 percent of the vote.

After the television and entertainment website invited its three million readers to vote for their favorite host of 2022, Alison was named the most beloved host of the year.

Opening the show, Dermot O’Leary told his friend and co-host that he was giving him a surprise.

“We have a little surprise for you Alison Hammond,” Dermot revealed.

“We all know you lost to Ant and Dec at the NTAs, but you actually beat them and won Most Loved Host at the Entertainment Daily Awards!”

Jumping up and down, he screeched, ‘Are you kidding me? Thank you! That is incredible!

Alison previously revealed who actually thought they HAD won the National Television Award back in October, and misheard when the Geordie duo, who were absent from the ceremony due to Covid, were declared the winners.

Admitting the mistake during an episode of This Morning that month, the host, 47, explained that she had to check with co-host Dermot O’Leary on whether or not she had won.

The This Morning studio was showered with confetti after the NTA celebrations as Alison and Dermot looked happy opening the show.

Looking back on the night, Alison called Dermot “the funniest fellow”, before explaining the hilarious moment.

She shared: “Obviously, I was nominated for an award, but in my head I heard ‘Alison’ when Ant and Dec were called.

So I went up to Dermot and said, “Did they say Alison?” and Dermot said, “No. They didn’t say Alison.” I was so embarrassing. It is very shameful!’
