Critics Choice Awards film nominations 2023: Everything Everywhere All At Once leads list

The Critics’ Choice Association announced Wednesday morning the nominees in the motion picture category for the 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Winners will be revealed at the star-studded Critics Choice Awards gala hosted by Chelsea Handler on January 15.

Everything Everywhere All At Once leads this year’s contending films, earning fourteen nominations in all.

Tops: The Critics’ Choice Association announced Wednesday morning the nominees in the film category for the 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. Everything Everywhere All At Once leads this year’s contending films, earning fourteen nominations in all.

In addition to the Best Picture and Best Comedy nominations, the film racked up several acting nominations, including Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh and Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan.

Both Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and the cast earned a Best Performance Ensemble nomination.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert earned nominations in the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories, while Jason Kisvarday and Kelsi Ephraim were nominated for Best Production Design, along with Paul Rogers for Best Editing and Shirley Kurata for Best Costume Design.

The film was also nominated for Best Hair and Makeup and Best Visual Effects.

Steven Spielberg once again received a Best Director nomination, this time for the Best Picture nominee The Fabelmans, as well as a Best Original Screenplay nomination opposite Tony Kushner.

In addition to receiving a Best Performance Ensemble nomination, several members of the cast were recognized for their outstanding performances, including Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams, Best Supporting Actor nominees Paul Dano and Judd Hirsch, and Best Actor nominee /Young Actress Gabriel LaBelle.

Rounding out the project’s 11 nominations, Janusz Kaminski earned a nomination for Best Cinematography, while Rick Carter and Karen O’Hara are up for Best Production Design, and John Williams could take home the trophy for Best Score.

The list of Best Picture contenders also includes Babylon and The Banshees of Inisherin, which earned 10 and nine nominations respectively, along with Elvis and Tár, who each earned seven nominations.

Rounding out the Best Picture nominees are Avatar: The Way of Water, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, RRR, Top Gun: Maverick and Women Talking.

There are eleven Best Picture nominees this year due to an exact tie. In addition, the CEC expanded the Best Director category to include ten nominees.

Our collective take on the best achievements of the year is truly meaningful to the creative community.”

As previously announced, ‘Abbott Elementary’ tops the television contenders for the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards, picking up nominations in six categories. In addition to Outstanding Comedy Series, the show earned several acting nominations, including Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for Quinta Brunson. Chris Perfetti and Tyler James Williams were nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, while Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph earned nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. “Better Call Saul” followed with five overall nominations, while “Gaslit,” “Reservation Dogs” and “The Good Fight” tied with four nominations each.

It was also announced that Hollywood icon Jeff Bridges will receive the Critics Choice Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s show.

The Critics Choice Awards are given annually by the Critics Choice Association to honor the best achievements in film and television. Historically, they are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award® nominations.

In October it was shared that Handler would be hosting the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards.

For the past four years, actor Taye Diggs has had the honor of hosting.

Handler had a seven-year run as the host of E!’s Chelsea Lately, a tenure during which Handler was the only female host of a late-night talk show on the air.

She launched her documentary series Chelsea Does followed by her talk show Chelsea on Netflix in 2016.

As an author, she has written six New York Times bestselling books, including 2019’s Life Will Be the Death of Me, which is also being adapted into a television series for Peacock under her production company, Chelsea Handler Productions.

Handler will executive produce and star in the show.

In 2020, Handler released her first stand-up special in over 6 years, the critically acclaimed Chelsea Handler: Evolution on HBO Max.

That earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.

Most recently, she launched her iHeartRadio advice podcast, Dear Chelsea, and embarked on the Vaccinated and Horny Tour, taking her sensational stand-up set to over 80 cities across North America and winning The Comedy Act of 2021 at the People’s Choice Awards.

The 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards will take place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles and will air live on The CW from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Historically, they are the most accurate predictor of Academy Award nominations.

The 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards will be produced by Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment. The CEC is represented by Dan Black of Greenberg Traurig.
