Richarlison undergoes scans at Tottenham and is expected to be out for weeks rather than months

Tottenham have suffered a setback with Richarlison facing weeks due to a World Cup hamstring injury.

Striker Richarlison underwent tests on Tuesday after returning to the club from Qatar with the problem, amid concerns he could miss up to a month.

He was not due to report until next Monday along with England captain Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who was also part of the Three Lions squad.

Richarlison helped Brazil reach the quarterfinals, scoring three times, including twice for tournament contenders against Serbia and South Korea.

He played 84 minutes of the round of 16 for Croatia despite picking up the injury in the warm-up.

The Spurs are awaiting confirmation of the severity of the injury, but expect Richarlison to be out for weeks rather than months.

Richarlison (pictured during a training session with Spurs in October) underwent tests on Tuesday after returning to the club from Qatar with the problem.

Spurs return to action on Boxing Day at Brentford and have seven games guaranteed before the end of January, including a north London derby against Arsenal and a trip to Manchester City.

They could have an eighth on the last weekend of the month if they progress to the FA Cup fourth round.

And a potential firing of Richarlison will limit Spurs’ chances of getting Kane and Heung-Min Son back in action.

Son is due to return to Spurs on Wednesday after his South Korean team was knocked out of the World Cup by Richarlison’s Brazil in the round of 16.

He was not due to report until next Monday along with England captain Harry Kane.
