Police officer who managed to escape the evil shooters in Queensland breaks silence

One of the officers who escaped with his life from the horrific police shooting at Darling Downs on Monday broke his silence from his hospital bed.

Chinchilla-based Constable Randall Kirk was one of four officers who attended a property in Wieambilla, south of Chinchilla, shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday.

He is expected to be released from the hospital shortly after undergoing surgery for injuries sustained under the immense gunfire, but in a statement released Wednesday morning, he says his injuries are far from his main concern.

The four officers had been called to the remote property to perform a welfare check before the three residents fired an ambush on them.

Agent Kirk’s colleagues, Agent Rachel McCrow, 29, and Agent Matthew Arnold, 26, were killed during the execution style ambush.

Agent Randall Kirk and his wife Breanna moved to Chinchilla to pursue their career.

The three gunmen; Gareth Train, his brother Nathaniel, a former Queensland school principal, and Gareth’s wife, Stacey Train, were killed in a police shootout later that night.

A neighbor, Alan Dare, was also killed at the scene after he came to inspect the smoke billowing from the property.

Agent Kirk was able to escape the terrifying scene despite being shot in the leg and showered with glass after the gunmen fired on his escaping vehicle.

“I feel fine, just a little sore,” Agent Kirk told Warwick Stanthorpe Today on Tuesday.

“My main thoughts are with the other police families at this terrible time.”

Constable Keely Brough, who had only been on the force for nine weeks, fled into the bush, pursued by the armed men.

She was later rescued by a team of 16 officers after hiding for her life as the three armed assailants gave chase.

The trains were later shot dead by police after prolonged gunshots had been heard from the property for some time.

The Queensland Police Union confirmed to NCA Newswire that Officer Kirk had undergone surgery to remove the shrapnel and repair the injuries sustained.

‘I feel fine, just a little sore. My main thoughts are with the other police families at this terrible time,” Officer Kirk said in a statement issued through the union.

‘It means a lot to know that the community cares about all of us.

“My wife and I have a young family and we would appreciate privacy while we come to terms with this.”

Constable Kirk was injured during intense fire from a variety of weapons directed at him during the incident in Wieambilla.

He is expected to be released from Toowoomba Hospital soon to join his wife and daughter, with the couple expecting another baby next month.

QPU Chairman Ian Leavers has assured the family that they will help Randall with a return-to-work plan and any continued support.

Speaking to Warwick Stanthorpe Today on Tuesday, Constable Kirk’s wife, Breanna, said he had “minor surgery” in Toowoomba on Tuesday morning.

Ms Kirk said her husband was “fine”.

“When I first spoke to Randall at Chinchilla Hospital (Monday night), his first thoughts were of his colleagues,” he shared.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Randall’s deceased colleagues.”

Ms Kirk, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, said they were overwhelmed by the support of the community and their police family.

“Randall and I are very grateful for the overwhelming support from the Chinchilla and Stanthorpe communities,” he said.

“We have spoken to Police Minister Mark Ryan (Tuesday) morning, and he has offered us wonderful encouragement and support.”
