Train delays in Sydney after derailment on the Blue Mountains line west of the city

A freight train derailed on the Blue Mountains Line west of Sydney, causing major delays to services across the city.
The incident took place around 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to NSW Deputy Premier Paul O’Toole.
Portions of the T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T7, T8, and T9 train routes are affected, as well as the Blue Mountains Line, Southern Line, and Shoalhaven Line.
“The derailment has caused significant damage to the track infrastructure between Lawson and Linden, which will take some time to repair,” he said.
The derailment took place between Lawson (pictured) and Linden on the Blue Mountains line.
“As a result, 20 buses have been contracted to replace the trains between Lithgow and Springwood, some are running now.”
There are also three trains that operate a shuttle service between Katoomba and Lithgow.
NSW TrainLink West said the derailment had caused delays in the area.
“Trains are not running between Katoomba and Springwood in both directions due to an issue with a freight train at Linden,” one tweet read.
These delays are expected to continue throughout the day. Please make alternative arrangements if possible.’
