New Samsung Galaxy S23 rumors point to photo and video upgrades

We keep hearing a lot of leaks and rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S23 series of phones, and the latest unconfirmed rumors point to upgrades to both the stills and video recording capabilities of the handsets.
According to seasoned leakers Ice Universe (opens in new tab), in terms of video recording, the new Galaxy S23 phones can capture 8K footage at 30 frames per second. That’s a 24fps increase for the three phones in the Galaxy S22 range.
It may not seem like the most significant leap, but it’s probably a welcome one nonetheless, as more and more filmmakers move to 8K resolution for their video. That video will look smoother on the 2023 flagships.
More improvements
That’s not all, because Ice Universe says that too (opens in new tab) photos taken with the Galaxy S23 Ultra during the day will be “clearer” and will also offer “better detail and higher saturation” for shots taken with the handset.
While there’s not much specifics, it sounds in line with what we’ve heard about the Galaxy S23 range – that the images and video captured with the Ultra model in particular will be noticeably better.
Based on what we’ve heard before, it sounds like Ice Universe got its hands on a Galaxy S23 handset beforehand, or maybe just saw the results of its rear cameras. The new phones are expected to be unveiled in February 2023.
Analysis: better camera quality
The quality of smartphone cameras has now improved so much that it is difficult for manufacturers to make huge leaps forward with the technology year after year. It sounds like the Galaxy S23 upgrades will be minor upgrades in terms of photo and video capture.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus featured 50 MP + 12 MP + 10 MP rear cameras with three lenses and 3x optical zoom, while the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra topped the list with a 108 MP + 12 MP + 10 MP + 10 MP rear camera with four lenses. 10x optical zoom.
It’s said the Ultra model might feature a 200MP rear camera next year, and unsurprisingly this will see substantial improvements in low-light photography and telephoto zoom options. However, some of the other cameras in the rear module apparently remain the same.
We’ve heard less about possible camera upgrades for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. The rumors out there have suggested that there won’t be many upgrades in terms of hardware components, though software algorithms can always be improved.
