Piers Morgan leads social media reaction as Harry and Meghan release bombshell Netflix documentary

Royal fans have taken to Twitter to share their views as the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix documentary is released, with Piers Morgan describing it as “worse than Keeping Up With The Kardashians”.

The highly anticipated series comes in two parts, with the first three episodes of the six-part documentary series now available to stream.

Enthusiastic fans have already started making their way through episodes, covering Harry’s childhood, Princess Diana’s death, the beginning of Meghan and Harry’s love story, never-before-seen family photos, Megxit, racism and his new life in California.

Viewers shared different views: some found the documentary series to be a story of two people in love, but others criticized the show as “boring”.

The first episode was amazing. I love the attention paid to the base of his story on Harry’s childhood. So many sweet moments. I want to stay up and binge the rest, but willpower! ‘ said one.

But another disagreed, saying: ‘I am sI’m sorry Netflix, I turned off the tv, as the Harry and Meghan documentary is so boring, nothing new, they are just giving in to the illusion. I have never seen any boring shows that this. #HarryandMeghanNetflix’

Meghan and Harry fans have endorsed the couple as “two people who just wanted to keep their bubble” and have compared Meghan to Diana, as Harry does in the first episode.

“This Harry and Meghan doc is really just about two people who had a secret crush and wanted to keep that bubble going,” one wrote.

But critics saw their show as a “plot-long publicity exercise” in which the couple “made millions off Netflix.”

“The first few minutes of Harry & Meghan Netflix show clear evidence that it is an enrichment exercise of publicity hoarding, image promotion and long plot with revenge, justified or imagined, thrown into an opportunistic and explosive mix. Cynicism can be very healthy at times,’ said one.

Another responded by saying: ‘You don’t owe anyone an apology Prince Harry! You protected your family like a real family man.

In the opening scenes, Harry is shown at Heathrow airport in footage he shot himself in March 2020 at the height of the Megxit crisis and as he prepared to leave the UK for the last time as a royal.

The series began with a statement written on a black background saying it is a “first-hand account of Harry and Meghan’s story as told from a never-before-seen personal archive.”

He said that all interviews ended in August 2022 and that “members of the royal family refused to comment on the content of this series.”

Harry says: “We’ve just finished two weeks, our last push, our last leg of real engagements.

“It’s really hard to look back now and say, ‘What the hell happened?’

And he adds: ‘This is not just about our history. This has always been so much bigger than us.

Nobody knows the whole truth. We know the whole truth. The institution knows the whole truth. And the media know the whole truth because they have been aware.

And I think anyone else in my situation would have done exactly the same.

Meanwhile, Meghan is seen saying: “I really want to get to the other side of all this.”

There’s a silent pause before she looks excited and says, ‘I don’t know what to say anymore.’

Harry and Meghan signed lucrative deals, believed to be worth more than £100m, with the streaming giant and Spotify after stepping down as senior royals in 2020 following family breakups and struggles with royal life.

The ‘deep and unprecedented’ docuseries, directed by Oscar nominee Liz Garbus, is billed as a global Netflix event, with Harry and Meghan sharing ‘the other side of their high-profile love story’.
