Crime scene photos emerge from the grisly scene where a body was found below a unit complex, as police reveal why neighbors never noticed the smell.

  • Police remain at the compound where partially buried human remains were found.
  • Cleaners unearthed a grim discovery in an enclosed area behind the besser block wall
  • It remains ‘tightly wrapped’ covered with clothing and bedding to hide the odor.
  • Police said it will take time for detectives to complete their investigation.

New photos have emerged from the scene where the remains of a body were found partially buried under a unit complex in north Brisbane.

The grim discovery was found by cleaners in Alderley at around 10:45am on Wednesday.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters the remains were found in an enclosed area behind a Besser block wall and said it was “quite worrying” that the body had gone undetected for “some months”.

“The large number of people, residents of this block of units, are unaware of that fact,” he said.

Residents of the unit block had not reported any odors or other suspicions before cleaners discovered the body Wednesday, Superintendent Massingham added.

He said the body was “very well wrapped” and covered with clothing and bedding, masking the smell.

Officers are working to identify the person and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Detectives are seeking information from previous tenants and an investigation center has been set up at the Hendra Police Station.

It comes as resident Allan Batzloff told ABC News on Thursday that he recalled an “argument on the spur of the moment” between two men at the complex months earlier.

“I heard some things … someone threatening someone a few months ago,” Batzloff told ABC News.

“I don’t know what personal relationship it was, but one guy said, ‘I’m going to get back at you, I’m going to get you,’ that kind of thing.”

Batzloff said the whole incident was “a bit disturbing.”

“I didn’t think anything of it at the time until yesterday,” he said.

“Now the police ask me to clarify a little more what happened.”

Photos from the scene show police vehicles parked in front of a parking area while homicide detectives investigated the property.

“Examination of that area located an item that at this stage we have identified through preliminary examination as either human remains or a human body,” Superintendent Massingham said.

The cleaners were reportedly upset and traumatized by the shocking discovery.

“Whoever put the person there has tried to hide the body without success,” he said.

‘(They) have been very careful to wrap the body in a certain way and preserve it. They have also transported it to an area that is not easily accessible.

“Whether it was their intention to leave it there, or to come get it at a later time and they just haven’t, that’s part of what we’ll be looking at.”

Superintendent Massingham said it would take time for police to complete their investigation.

“These types of homicide investigations can be complex and lengthy,” he said.

“I think it may take some time to identify who this person is, the cause of death, and of course the causation related to the death of this person may take some time.

“We currently have dozens of missing person reports that we are reviewing that have already started at Hendra station.”

The police are interviewing people in the complex and also want to speak to former residents.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
