Mom sparks debate after claiming passenger told her she should not fly first class with toddler

A mother has sparked a fierce online debate about the “unwritten rule” of taking children in the first-class section of planes after detailing a recent incident in which a fellow traveler chastised her for doing so.

In an impassioned post on Reddit on Saturday, the anonymous mother introduced the saga to strangers on the ‘Am I the A*****’ subreddit, where users ask others for their opinions on specific situations to discern if they were in the Right One. .

The Reddit user did not reveal her name, but said the incident occurred on a cross-country flight this past Thanksgiving, when she and her husband, along with their two-year-old daughter, were flying to see relatives. .

With some extra cash from a recent raise the husband received, the family decided to splurge on first-class seats, but was quickly confronted by an unpleasant passenger before the plane took off.

What followed was a contentious confrontation in which the disgruntled cyclist allegedly complained to staff twice before swearing at the dumbfounded mother. Despite the man’s objections, the family remained in their seats, while the boy whose presence sparked the argument remained silent throughout the trip, the mother said.

Redditors now appear to be divided on the situation, after being asked by the mother for their weigh-in on the matter over the weekend, with the majority standing behind the mother.

She wrote: ‘My husband, a toddler (almost 3) and I were flying across the country for Thanksgiving.

‘Since we could afford it due to a nice raise my husband recently received, we decided to splurge on first-class tickets for the trip.

‘My little girl has always been a good flyer and has flown a lot in her short life. She “she sat and played quietly throughout the flight, she only got up when she had to go to the bathroom; the problem was with another first class passenger.”

The mother went on to reveal that her husband is disabled and that the family had arrived early on the plane to take care of their seats. As they walked down the hall, they noticed that the man was already looking at them.

Shortly after she was seated, the mother wrote: “A flight attendant came over and asked to see our boarding passes to make sure we were seated correctly.”

The couple complied and the airline employee, analyzing the tickets, told the family that they were ‘fine’.

At the time, the mother did not suspect that the dazzling man and the sudden request to show her tickets were related, until a second flight attendant approached them to ask the same thing before the plane took off.

Like the previous staff member, the assistant also determined seating for the family. Then the plane would take off; however, another disruption occurred minutes into the trip.

The Reddit user did not reveal her name, but described an incident that occurred on a cross-country flight on Thanksgiving Day, when she and her husband, along with their two-year-old daughter, were flying out to see relatives.

“We left and everything was fine,” the mother recalled. ‘My son fell asleep in the middle of coloring, he was listening to music.’

Then, he received a tap on the shoulder. This time, instead of an attendant, the intrusion came from the passenger who had been mugging the family moments before.

“Before I could utter a word,” the mother wrote, “she told me that children were not allowed in first class and that we had to move to our ‘real’ seats.”

On hearing this, the mother wrote that she realized the man was most likely complaining to staff before takeoff, due to his claims that the family was in the wrong seats.

Despite the man’s objections, the family remained in their seats, while the young boy whose presence sparked the argument remained silent, and even slept, throughout the trip, the mother said.

The mother added that when the confrontation occurred, her husband was sleeping and her daughter was coloring.

‘[I] I decided before I got mad that I wanted the flight attendants to take care of this,’ he continued, writing how the man, after hearing this, quickly became ‘nervous’.

She wrote: ‘I told him I didn’t feel comfortable talking to him and was calling a flight attendant to take care of this. He got nervous, but in the end he stood awkwardly next to me in the aisle until a flight attendant arrived to clear things up.

A flight attendant would then tell the passenger that the seating arrangement was, in fact, correct, according to the Reddit post, and the mother wrote that the man was even.I’ve been told not to bother the family again.

The remainder of the flight would be relatively peaceful, with the man retiring to his own seat and the woman’s daughter staying well behaved throughout the journey.

That said, that wasn’t the end of the ruckus, with another altercation ensuing hours later as passengers began to disembark.

As the family got up to leave, the mother wrote, the male passenger whispered a derogatory term in her ear, calling her a “fat shit,” while telling her she “pays too much money to be surrounded by first class.” by children.’

The passengers were then separated, and the mother apparently failed to report the incident to airline officials. It is not yet clear on which airline or flight the incidents occurred.
