World Series champion Dusty Baker reveals he’s behind the garlic and onion planting after Houston Astros glory… but admits he’s had time to check out his cellar!
Champion Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has been basking in World Series glory so much so that he’s behind in his outfield.
The 73-year-old won his first World Series championship as manager in his 25th season as captain when the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games last month.
Baker then sorted out his future by agreeing to a one-year contract days after the win and at the MLB winter meetings this offseason, he shed light on what he’s been up to ever since.

‘I just planted my garlic the other day, I’m a month behind. And I haven’t planted my onions yet,’ he said Monday.
‘My victory trail went straight to the garden and my cellar. I went to my cellar. I checked the wine.
Baker also revealed information about the Astros’ interest in former free agent and former Chicago Cubs Willson Contreras. The champions were linked in a trade for the 30-year-old last season.
Baker appeared to be in good spirits at MLB’s winter meetings in the offseason on Monday.
‘At the time, it’s not that I didn’t want it. It’s just that at the time I didn’t think it was a good fit with two months to go in the season,” Baker said.
‘You have to learn your pitching staff. You have to learn how we do things, and I didn’t feel like there was enough time to do that.’
But Baker hasn’t ruled out the possibility of trading Contreras in the future as he looks to continue the momentum.
“In the future, yes, we are going to talk to him and we have an interest in him,” he added.
‘And if the numbers are right and the years are right and the situation is right, then… the right thing for both of us.
‘If not, then we still have some depth in that situation. But people sometimes take a “no” as a rejection. And it wasn’t about that. It was the wrong time. I stressed about that then, but it didn’t go well.
