Below Deck Adventure’s Captain Kerry Titheradge admits there was a stigma surrounding the hunting series when it first launched and why many boaters were ‘shocked’ by the reality show
The Below Deck franchise has become a reality TV juggernaut, spawning four different spin-offs in addition to the flagship show.
But despite the franchise’s popularity, Captain Kerry Titheradge, who’s latest spin-off Below Deck Adventure on Hayusays there was a stigma in the yachting industry about the show when it first started.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia last week, Kerry admitted the show “wasn’t something you’d want to put your name on” when it first started.

However, he clarified that this had nothing to do with the quality of the show, but everything to do with how private the luxury yacht industry is.
“When I started yachting the big difference was how private it was, it’s super private,” he explained.
“You tell your crew they can’t even post on Facebook until you’ve left the venue, so we’re very private and that’s what matters,” he continued.
“So I think it was quite shocking to show people the Queen’s chambers and people weren’t very happy.”

Despite initial reluctance from some in the industry, Captain Kerry said sentiment has now turned since Below Deck became more popular.
“I think over time people see it in a much better light and people actually get congratulated for being a part of it instead of turning their noses up at you,” he said.
Below Deck Adventure adds a different twist to the franchise thanks to its cold-water environment in the picturesque Norwegian fjords.
“It was really cool. A totally strange place. Very different from anything I ever expected or expected,” Kerry told the Daily Mail Australia at BravoCon in October.
‘The place is absolutely incredible. I’ve been all over the world. I’ve been to the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Seychelles, Africa, Whitsundays, Tassie… this place is incomparable to all those places.’
