Dua Lipa has been granted Albanian citizenship for her role in spreading the fame of Albanians internationally through her music.

The singer, 26, was born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents who fled conflict and political instability in the Balkans.

She took to her Instagram to mark the achievement and wrote, “Thank you to President Bajram Begaj and Mayor @erionveliaj for this honor ~ got my Albanian citizenship!!”

She was granted citizenship prior to the 110th anniversary of Albania’s independence from the Ottoman Empire.

President Bajram Begaj said he was honored to do so as Dua has made Albanians famous all over the world.

The pop star co-founded the Sunny Hill Foundation in 2016 to raise money with annual concerts in her native Kosovo to help those in financial difficulty.

Dua said, ‘It is an indescribable great joy with so much acceptance, love and everything.’

She will wrap up her Future Nostalgia tour on Monday at Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square to commemorate Independence Day.
