Weston McKennie confuses social media by hilariously drying his hands on a photographer’s VEST… but some World Cup fans are unfazed by ‘disgusting and disrespectful’ action
USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie drew attention during the first half with a strange, yet hilarious, moment that sent football fans erupting on social media.
During the pulsating, scoreless first half of the United States vs. England, McKennie went to a photographer before wiping his hand on the man’s vest in an attempt to dry his hands before a throw-in.
The strange moment seemed to catch the older employee off guard, as one of his colleagues looked on in bewilderment.
The Juventus & USMNT midfielder opted to wipe his hands to a completely stunned photographer
It came in the 38th minute with the score tied at 0-0, although McKennie’s other big involvement should have seen a change in the scoring.
Elon Musk’s Twitter was on fire when a fan suggested it was an utterly “disgusting” act.
‘McKennie’s direct pull on the old man’s waistcoat and making a napkin from his hand were the clearest demonstration of quintessentially American culture. Disgusting, disrespectful, unprofessional people… #USAvENG,” the user wrote.
Although the reaction was mostly hilarious. An onlooker said “Weston McKennie casually used the photographer as a towel,” followed by a laughing emoji.

A fellow fan of the move said “ahhagaha oh my god the whole house is screaming rn.”
Sixteen minutes earlier, the Juventus midfielder fired half a volley over the crossbar after a beautifully placed cross from Timothy Weah.
Otherwise it was a great first half, full of verve, desperation and, as the photographer now knows all too well, perspiration.
