Black Friday 2022 officially starts November 25th, and tons of retailers dropped some of the hottest sales in celebration. And these deals are guaranteed to last through the end of the month until prices rise again in December.
This is supported by a recent report from Adobe (opens in new tab) which examined price changes for Christmas shopping in 2021 and found that prices fell sharply in early November, remained low throughout the month, and rose again in December.

Should you wait for a Black Friday monitor deal?
Black Friday is just around the corner and an important question to ask yourself is: should you wait until the day of purchase of a monitor? The answer is a bit more complicated, as monitor prices drop significantly in November.
If it’s possible for you to wait, then waiting until Black Friday would be a great way to take advantage of a great bargain that’s sure to save you tons of money. You’ll also likely find that you can get more powerful monitors with better specs than those currently on the market, which is beneficial because better specs mean a product that lasts longer.
However, PCs, especially now in this work-from-home economy, are incredibly important to many households and some people can’t afford to wait that long for a monitor. If so, definitely invest in it now as there are tons of great deals out there, even if they don’t match the Black Friday price drops.

When do the best Black Friday monitor deals start in 2022?
Black Friday falls on November 25 this year and, as is tradition, we expect some excellent sales before then. Traditionally the best discounts were on the day itself and while that is generally still the case, recent years have seen an increase in retailers launching Black Friday prices earlier, say at the start of Thanksgiving week, or even earlier.
Even before that week there are plenty of sales in the month leading up to the special day, some even as early as October. Based on last year’s deals, some may be close to or even equal to the deals on and around Black Friday. And that’s a pattern that should repeat this year.
In 2021, many retailers such as Dell, Amazon and Best Buy launched early Black Friday monitor deals in early November, which has already repeated itself in November 2022 so far, so be sure to keep an eye out for them.

What specifications should I look for when buying a monitor on Black Friday?
One of the things to look out for most when looking for monitor sales on Black Friday is that retailers are trying to dispose of old stock. This means you might come across something that looks like a lot, only to find out later that the monitor is several years old with outdated specs. That doesn’t make it useless, of course, as most monitors are still perfectly usable.
Keep in mind that monitors should be at least 1080p resolution, which is the absolute minimum HD resolution, preferably 4k if you can afford it, but 1080p is still fine. From there, your needs will vary based on the type of work you need your monitor for.
For example, if you do professional work such as photography or video editing, you need a monitor with color spaces that allow for proper color correction. At least as high as DCI-P3 98% color gamut support, as this ensures that any other monitor viewing that professional material sees images and video in correct colors across the board. Brightness is also an important factor in image color quality and accuracy, with the higher number being better. 200nits and above is a great place to start.
Meanwhile, for gaming monitors, the two most important factors other than resolution are the refresh rate and response time. For the former, the higher the number, the better, as it represents the number of times per second the image on the screen is refreshed. Refresh rates of 144Hz and above are particularly good.
The latter should be as low a number as it represents the amount of time it takes to switch from one color to another, with lower numbers meaning a much sharper and clearer image. A 1ms response time is especially great for gaming and is what you want to aim for.
What about Black Friday gaming monitor deals?
If you buy a professional monitor, a DCI-P3 supports 98% color gamut with a range of color spaces such as Adobe RGB, sRGB, Rec. 709 are essential to ensure the highest and most accurate color and image quality. For a gaming monitor, a high refresh rate and low response time is important for a smooth and responsive gaming session.
If you’re looking for monitors at lower prices, keep in mind that some manufacturers are cutting back on certain other specs to bring that price down. For example, one of the cheap monitors on sale last year has sub-par sound quality to make up for the other high specs such as 4K resolution.
