New Planes, Trains and Automobiles has 75 minutes of deleted scenes

Just in time for Thanksgiving, a new 4K Ultra HD version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles featuring 75 minutes of deleted scenes has been released on DVD and Paramount Plus in the UK.

The 1980s classic follows the storyline of anxious and stern businessman Neale Page (Steve Martin) trying to get home to see his family in Chicago.

Stuck in a Kansas airport lounge after an emergency landing, Page must befriend shower curtain salesman Del Griffith (John Candy), who will let him stay the night in a run-down motel.

Together, the two, from completely different social classes, must overcome their intense dislike for each other and get Page home.

At the time, the film was critically acclaimed and John Candy was nominated for Funniest Actor in a Motion Picture that year.

But now, 35 years after its initial release, producers have released more than an hour of unseen clips for loyal fans – though none would have changed the outcome of the movie.

Page, who was sitting across from him at the time, can be seen grinning at Griffith as he gobbles down his dinner.

A deleted scene shows Griffith singing “99 Bottles of Beer On The Wall” while he and Page are on a large bus.

The infamous bus journey does feature in the original film, where passengers sing a series of familiar songs to lighten the mood.

But in this new scene, which was not included in the first movie, Griffith starts singing the North American country song before everyone else joins in.

In the previously unseen footage, Page looks disgruntled and unhappy, as he regularly does in the company of his new travel partner.

The new extended 4K movie is on sale on Amazon in the UK for £19.99

Another deleted clip shows the two getting on the same plane, where they happen to be put side by side by the airline.

After they sit down, Griffith opens his mouth and starts talking about how hard it is to sell shower curtain rings after the release of the hit horror movie Psycho.

He tells Page that since the “bathroom scene,” where the killer attacks their victim from behind the railing, fewer people are willing to invest in his business.

Finally, the new 4K movie also features an extended version of their cab ride from a Kansas airport to a dingy and run-down motel they booked for one night.

The comedians are both on board to recreate the 1987 travel comedy, according to deadline.

Hart’s HartBeat Productions and Smith’s Westbrook Studios are teaming up to develop the project.

Brooklyn 99’s Aeysha Carr will pen the screenplay, which will be her feature film debut.

Hart and Smith will produce the film with Jon Mone, co-president of Westbrook Studios and head of film, along with Bryan Smiley, HartBeat’s president of film and television.
