Ronaldo criticized the club in a two-part interview with Piers Morgan last week
In Ronaldo’s interview with Morgan, the Red Devils explored the possibility of terminating Ronaldo’s contract seven months early without paying any of the £16 million he is expected to earn in June 2023.
United believed Ronaldo had breached his terms of employment with his criticism of the club’s American owners, manager Erik ten Hag, the club’s facilities, his teammates and former Red Devils players including Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.
As the interview dominated Ronaldo’s preparations for the World Cup, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had to speak out about his treatment at Old Trafford on Monday.
“I’m bulletproof – I’m wearing an iron suit,” said Ronaldo. “In my life, the best timing is always my timing. I don’t have to think about what other people think. I speak when I want.
Ronaldo criticized Erik ten Hag and the Glazer family, saying he had been ‘betrayed’
“The players have known me very well for years and know what type of person I am and what I believe in.
“It’s an ambitious bunch that’s hungry and focused. So I’m sure it (the interview) won’t shake the concentration and focus of the locker room.
“Stop asking my teammates about me. If you asked other players about Cristiano Ronaldo I would be upset. If you want to ask them about the World Cup and the team, I’d like you to do that.’
The announcement comes just two days before Ronaldo kicks off Portugal’s World Cup final against Ghana.
