James Arthur welcomes a baby girl named Emily in honour of unborn child he lost last year 

James Arthur shocked fans Friday when he revealed he has fathered a baby girl.

The singer had not revealed he was expecting a child after rekindling his romance with Jessica Grist early this year.

In a touching tribute to a miscarriage the couple suffered last year, James revealed that they named their newborn daughter Emily.

In a black and white video, he shared, “Someone has arrived unexpectedly in the past few days,” adding, “Dear Emily, welcome to the world..”

The clip saw James hugging his newborn as she grabbed his finger.

Last year, James revealed that his single Emily, which contained a message for a future child, was written while his partner was pregnant, but she tragically lost the baby.

The former X Factor winner penned emotional lyrics as a tribute to his then-unborn baby, including “I’m gonna ask your mum to marry you” and “I feel a love that I just can’t believe – You’re everything” .

Speaking Andy Jaye is an hour with podcast, James said that when he put the song together his partner was pregnant and so the lyrics were meant to tell the child that the singer had “lived with an empty soul” until she came along.

In the lyrics to his song, James said, “I needed life and life came and gave me Emily. You make me a better man than I’ll ever be, ever be, thanks to you Emily.”

Asked if it was written for a daughter-to-be, James said, “To be honest, when it first came out I billed it that way, but I’ve spoken to my partner and at the time it was a realistic prospect. She was pregnant.

‘Unfortunately it didn’t work out. It wasn’t far, it was a few months and she had an ectopic pregnancy. So she lost the child, and I didn’t really want to talk about it.

“But she actually said, ‘I think it’s really important that you do that — just because there’s so little information out there, and I’d really like to reiterate that.’

He admitted that he got it wrong pretty quickly with the song – because people usually wait longer before talking about a pregnancy to make sure the baby gets through the first few difficult weeks.

James said, “I remember at the time saying, ‘So you have to wait 14 weeks, or whatever it is, before you can even celebrate this, and I was writing the songs about it – I’m going to be a father.’

“I thought about having the hope and fear that everyone would have of having a child. And unfortunately that did not work out.

“But the song was special to us, and we felt like it was one of the stronger songs on the record.

And the record label was like, ‘We think you should put this song out’ — I think this is a song for my future child that I would still call Emily. So it made sense to put it out like that. I had a child. I think it’s kind of weird that people hear it.’

In January, it was reported that James had rekindled his romance with Jessica after they broke up in May last year.

A source told The sun that after nine years of on-off dating, James and Jessica have “grown apart” and feel the relationship has “run its course.”

The insider revealed, “James and Jessica have a lot of history so they will always have a special place in each other’s hearts, but the truth is they just grew apart and decided it wasn’t working anymore.

“There was no major drama and they are still friends, but still it is a blow to both of them because they have been together for so long.

“It just feels like the relationship has run its course now and James is focusing on his music because he’s got a big year ahead of him, he recently signed a new record deal and has a new album and a tour right around the corner so he throws himself into his work.’

This was not the first split for James and Jessica. The pair previously ended their relationship in 2015 before rekindling their romance two years later.
