Boy George has revealed he has had a hair transplant after seeing the results of Wayne Rooney’s £30,000 procedures.

The singer, 61, made the confession on Sunday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! after years of speculation.

After Jill Scott complimented him on his hair, he confessed, “Well, mine is a transplant,” before joking that he had it done at “the transplant shop.”

Wayne has spent an estimated £30,000 on hair transplants over a nine-year period.

The former England ace, 37, has gone to great lengths over the years to tackle his receding hairline, taking two emergency trips to London’s Harley Street Hair Clinic to get his male pattern baldness under control.

Wayne took to Twitter in 2011, shortly after his first procedure, admitting he was forced to take action after realizing at a young age that he was losing his hair.

He shared a photo of his revived hairline and tweeted: ‘To confirm to all my followers that I have had a hair transplant. I went bald at 25, why not. I am happy with the result.’

He later joked, ‘It’s still a little bruised and swollen when it dies, you’ll see it first. Everyone recommends a good hair gel. haha.

‘I had it done at Harley Street Hair Clinic in London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.’

His supportive wife Coleen later tweeted, “Hiya!! Yes, Waynes had his hair done! His own decision, not that I ask him, as many say!! Happy for him and it will look great x’.

The startling improvement was fully apparent the following year when Wayne played for England at the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The footballer showed a noticeably thicker head of hair as Roy Hodgson’s men reached the quarter-finals, a stark contrast to his drastically receding hairline at the FIFA World Cup held in South Africa two years earlier.

In 2013, Wayne returned to the Harley Street Hair Clinic for a second procedure, in which specialists again used follicular transfer, which involves transplanting hairs in groups of 1-4 and growing naturally into the scalp.

It claims the method is “undetectable” and a “great progress over older hair transplant procedures that used larger grafts” and often produced an “unnatural appearance.”

The procedure is ‘minimally invasive’ and therefore offers a shorter recovery time and less chance of complications.

Although costs are variable, the clinic charges £15,000 for 3,000 grafts/7,000 hairs over a two-session period.

Wayne has previously been accused of using a spray hair thickener during competitions to cover up bald spots.

A witness told The Sun: “Wayne’s hair does almost as many vanishing acts as it does on nights out.”

On the pitch, Rooney is focused on trying to steer Derby to a return to the Premier League after a 12-year absence, while hoping his role as coach can lay the foundation for a career in management.

Male pattern baldness affects around six million British men and NHS doctors write thousands of prescriptions for the drug every year in hopes of stopping men’s hair loss.
