The news comes as 2022 continues to be a tough year for crime in New York City.
Overall crime is up 29.1 percent in the Big Apple through Nov. 6, according to the NYPD’s own data.
While murders and shootings like Saturday night’s have declined, crimes, rapes and robberies have all risen by double digits.
The city’s public transit system appears to be bearing the brunt of rising crime, with about 1,865 reported so far in 2022, up 41.7 percent from last year.
Mayor Eric Adams – a Democrat who wanted to lower crime rates – has repeatedly claimed that there is just a “perception” that crime is spiraling out of control in the subways – even if he and Government Kathy Hochul has spent millions of taxpayer dollars to better monitor and control the system.

The mayor also made plans todeploys the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group to 20 districts to tackle rising crime.
They include eight districts in the Bronx, six in Manhattan, three in Brooklyn, and three in Queens, the United States New York Post reported.
The NYPD’s Strategic Response Group is an elite unit deployed in areas where crime is on the rise.
The unit, which consists of ‘highly trained personnel and specialized equipment’, is also adept at crowd control and can be deployed at major events, including parades and protests.
It also covers “shootings, bank robberies, missing persons, demonstrations or other major incidents,” the NYPD says.

In addition to fortifying the streets with more cops, Adams called on newly-elected Governor Hochul to abolish the “catch, release, repeat” bail reforms fueling the city’s crime epidemic.
The bail reforms introduced in 2019 are in most cases putting an end to cash bonds, a forward thinking idea that has resulted in many criminals being released back onto the streets within hours of being caught.
Adams, a former cop, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Thursday to appeal to her to toughen up.
“This catch, repeat, release system is just destroying the very foundations of our country,” he said.
“Six out of 10 New Yorkers in the Hispanic and Asian community voted Democrat, compared to seven to eight in 10 last time. We’re losing the basic black and brown that really believes in those basic things. Public safety, housing, education.
‘We can’t talk our way out here. We really have to be what people encounter on the street,” Adams added.
