League One outfit Derby County leads the tribute to non-league footballer Fin Bowen, who has died aged 18.

Bowen, who played for Mickleover in the Southern League Premier Division Central, passed away on Tuesday morning.

His club Mickleover released a statement on social media saying that “everyone at the club is devastated” by the news.

In a statement on Twitter, they wrote: “Yesterday morning Mickleover FC tragically lost one of our own, goalkeeper Fin Bowen.

At the age of 18, Fin was an integral part of the club academy led by John McGrath, Pablo Mills and Andrew Dales.

Bowen made his first-team debut this season for Mickelover in a 3-1 defeat at Leiston

He made his competitive first-team debut at Leiston in August after impressing in preparation.

“Everyone at the club is devastated to hear of Fin’s passing and will do everything in their power to ensure he is never forgotten at the Don Amott Arena.

“Rest in peace, Fin.”

The young shot-stopper, who trained several times with Derby County last season, made his first-team debut earlier this season in a 3-1 loss to Leiston.

The League One outfit therefore led the tributes along with other clubs from across the country.

They posted: ‘Terrible news. Fin trained with us several times last season to support his development.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone at Mickleover. Rest in peace, Finn.’

Fellow out-of-competition football clubs have also flooded social media to pay their respects to Bowen.

Alfreton Town responded to Mickleover’s tweet by saying, “Devastating news. Everyone at Alfreton Town wants to wish Fin’s family and friends the best during this difficult time.

Bedford Town wrote: ‘Heartbreaking news. Please accept our condolences at this difficult time.

Stourbridge also added: ‘Our thoughts are with Finn’s family, friends and everyone associated with Mickleover… Rest in peace Fin.

Rushall Olympic also tweeted: “We are shocked and saddened by such devastating news. We send our love and strength to Fin’s family, friends and all at your amazing club. Rest in eternal peace, Fin.’

Mickleover are currently fourth in the Southern League Premier Division Central after their first 15 games of the season.
