‘Everyone is devastated’: Canadian coach John Herdman says his team is ‘shocked’ by the loss of LAFC keeper Maxime Crepeau, who broke his leg in a tackle for which he was sent off in the MLS Cup final for the World Cup
A horrific injury in the MLS Cup final means Canada will go to the World Cup in Qatar without a reserve goalkeeper.
Los Angeles FC starter Maxime Crepeau left the game on a cart after running out of his penalty area and colliding with Philadelphia Union forward Cory Burke.
Since Burke was the last man, Crepeau was officially sent away while he was out with what was later diagnosed as a broken leg.
With the Canadian World Cup team training in Bahrain, they were shocked by the injury and see it as a blow to their entire team.

“I think everyone is just devastated with how that has developed,” Canadian coach John Herdman said Monday.
“We lost (defender) Scott Kennedy earlier this week and how it unfolded for Max – just so late in the game and a situation where he had to put his body on the line. It was such a sad moment.
“I think it has mobilized a lot of people. The injury looked pretty bad on TV too. I think it has been a difficult moment, not only for the staff, but also for the player group here. With genuine concern about that injury.’
Crepeau was expected to back up starter and Red Star Belgrade keeper Milan Borjan in Qatar – with no. Two goalkeeper duties are now expected to be given to Dayne St. Clair of Minnesota United.
