Ryan Reynolds Confirms He IS Interested In Buying Ottawa Senators, But Deadpool Star Admits Need ‘A Partner With Really Deep Pockets’ For ‘Very Expensive’ NHL Franchise

Ryan Reynolds has confirmed his interest in buying NHL franchise Ottawa Senators.

Last week, reports surfaced that the Hollywood star was a potential suitor if the team went up for sale.

A day later, Senators Sports & Entertainment put the team on the market, but only on the condition that the side remain in Canada’s capital.

Now Reynolds has made it clear where he stands and confirms that he is in fact trying to buy the franchise.

“I’m trying to do that,” the Deadpool star said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“It’s very expensive, I need a partner with very deep pockets.

“It’s called a consortium when you form a group together to buy an entity. It’s just a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy.”

The franchise is currently valued at $655 million – the sixth cheapest in the NFL out of 32 teams, report Sporty.

Reynolds then joked, “If that doesn’t work, I’ll buy a U.S. Senator anyone can afford.”

The senators ruled last week that any potential buyer would have to agree not to move the club.

Team President Sheldon Plener said it is ‘a necessary and sensible step to reach out to those very interested parties who can show us their vision for the future of the team’.

Galatioto Sports Partners has been appointed as a financial advisor to facilitate the sale.

Actor Reynolds had already been identified in the media as a potential buyer and reportedly would like to keep the team it comes from.

“I love Ottawa. I grew up in Vancouver, which always has my heart, but also grew up in Ottawa. I spent a long time in Vanier, a small town,” he continued on the show.

‘Children are taken out of the womb on skates in Canada. NHL ready by the time they’re four.”

Anna and Olivia Melnyk took over the senators after the death of their father and owner Eugene Melnyk in March.

He had owned the Senators since 2003, when he bought the NHL club for $92 million.

Melnyk bought the Senators after Rod Bryden’s deal to get the franchise back was unsuccessful.

Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney took over England football team Wrexham in February 2021 after a $2.76 million deal.
