“In the first half, he was trying to find the spaces, playing into people’s backs and creating space for himself, and we couldn’t find him one bit,” Wilshere said.

“He was very good in the second half. He was unplayable at times. He had some good moments. In the second half many players went up a level, we found some more space.

“During halftime, we chatted with them a little bit about some tactical issues that allowed Ethan to get out. We had a very good balance in the team and Ethan was good in the second half.”

Arsenal scored in the opening 10 minutes but soon tied the score, with captain Bradley Ibrahim scoring from the spot.

A neat finish from Nwaneri saw the Gunners take a 2-1 lead away from home, and shortly after scoring his first he was back to drive another powerful attack home less than 10 minutes later.

While United saved a last-minute equalizer to cut the spoils in half, it is clear that the young midfielder is quickly becoming a promising talent in the Arsenal ranks, following in the footsteps of his coach, who made 198 appearances for the club.

Nwaneri has gained a lot of experience with different age groups in the Arsenal academy and has played in the Premier League 2, EFL Cup this season, while scoring two goals for Arsenal U18s.

The midfielder is also developing beyond his age in England’s youth line-up and has now earned six caps for the England U17 and scored three goals for Ryan Garry’s young Lions.
