Her Majesty had been disappointed she hadn’t met the Top Gun star at a Platinum Jubilee event.

But insiders said the late monarch “loved him” when she invited him over for tea over the summer.

And Cruise was even invited to lunch — but sadly, the Queen died before that could happen.

They were originally supposed to meet in May during A Gallop Through History, an equestrian event on the castle grounds

The Hollywood star, who was filming his last Mission Impossible movie in the UK, said: ‘She’s just a woman I admire immensely. I think she is someone of tremendous dignity and I admire her dedication.

“What she has achieved is historic. I just remember seeing pictures of her as a kid.’

A source told The Times: ‘The Queen said she was very disappointed not to have met Tom during the election.

“So he was invited on a special tour of Windsor Castle with everything ready for him. Then the two of them drank tea together.

“She loved seeing him and we really hit it off, so much so that she invited him over for lunch.”
