‘Can’t wait to be back!’: Hannah Hampton posts a photo of herself in hospital being treated for ‘ongoing medical problems’… after Aston Villa keeper was dropped from England due to posture problems
- Hannah Hampton, 21, has spoken out about being recently dropped by England
- The Aston Villa goalkeeper was dropped by the Lionesses due to posture problems
- However, Hampton insisted her absence was due to “ongoing medical problems”
- Villa manager Carla Ward then made a U-turn on her reason for scaling Hampton
- Now the two-capped international has posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed
Aston Villa Women’s goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has posted a photo of herself in hospital, which seems to suggest her recent absence was due to an injury and not a posture problem.
Sports post reported this week that Hampton had been dropped from England due to behavioral issues, but the 21-year-old claimed she had “been suffering for some time from an ongoing medical problem” that needs “a minor procedure” to address it.
And the Villa stopper tweeted an image of her hospital bed with the cheeky caption ‘can’t wait to be back..’ with a laughing emoji.

Aston Villa boss Carla Ward (left) has backtracked on her comments about Hampton (right) – after previously claiming she was left out of her squad ‘in the interests of the team’
Her post, citing the recent furore over her absence, seems to hit back at those posts about postural issues and insists she has a real medical problem.
Hampton’s tweet received more than 1,000 likes in less than an hour after it was posted, with many well-wishers offering supportive comments for a speedy recovery.
On Friday, Villa boss Carla Ward made a surprising turnaround on her rationale for scaling Hampton, going back on her previous comments and now backing up her player’s claims of injury.
Ward had said Hampton was fit to play at last Friday’s pre-game press conference in Kingsmeadow. The goalkeeper was kept out of the selection, but came to the stands unannounced.
After the game, Ward said that Hampton was available, but that something had happened the day before that made her decide it was in the best interests of the team to leave her at home.
Ward now claims Hampton suffers from ‘ongoing medical problems’, as Hampton claimed
Ward previously said Hampton was fit to play against Chelsea – before the player showed up to watch the match despite being locked out, she posted on her social media page from the stands
Ward said, “Hannah was available. Something happened yesterday and we decided it was in the best interests of the team and the squad for her to stay at home, so I did exactly that.
“That’s all I really want to say about it. I made the decision to leave her home in the interest of the team and I left her at home. I’d probably rather talk about the 11 players who were here.”
Then it turned out Monday that Hampton had been dropped by England because of problems with her attitude. The goalkeeper has not been chosen by Sarina Wiegman since the European Championship, with the Lionesses boss saying she had ‘personal problems’ that she had to solve.
Hampton’s statement contradicted Ward’s comments over the weekend, but the Villa boss backed up Hampton’s claim at her Friday morning press conference.
When asked about Hampton’s situation, Ward said: “She has a recurring muscle injury, she will have a minor medical procedure tomorrow. Then she comes back into the fray. That’s as much as I want to say about it.’
