Lauren Graham shared a rare insight into her divorce from longtime partner Peter Krause.

The Gilmore Girls star, 55, revealed that she and the Six Feet Under actor, 57, did not share the same values or vision for the future, ultimately leading to their breakup in 2021, after nearly 12 years together.

“We had such a good time together that maybe I didn’t ask basic questions about ‘What are your values and what do you envision?’ and those more mature things. And then they just caught up with us,” she said People.

Graham — who started dating Krause after the two starred as siblings on the show Parenthood — reflected on the positives and negatives of knowing each other for so long.

“I think part of all the positives of the fact that we’ve known each other for a long time was there. And one of the downsides of that is that we almost got into a relationship like 40-somethings without asking the questions people in their 40s should be asking,” she said.

After the breakup, Graham returned to Los Angeles to work on her new book at a rented beach house, but says she still has moments of sadness, especially regarding Krause’s 20-year-old son Roman, whom she helped raise.

“Every pain has its moments. I contributed to his child’s life, and so we are connected. And yes, I’m in a better place, but it’s still just a shame. It’s just sad for me.’

The actress then looked back on how she coped with the breakup during the COVID pandemic, and how she worked on her book, Have I Told You This Al? Stories I don’t want to forget helped keep her busy.

“I knew I was resilient because I always have been. You take your punches and don’t complain. That’s how I was always raised,” she said.

‘Somewhere in that’s a year like this where I just wouldn’t let it go’ [the breakup] flatten me. I thought, “Okay, look at all the good things I have and look at all the good times,” and “I’m going to write this book.” Thank God I have these outlets and these stories to tell.”

Despite the breakup, the star is open to the possibility of love but will not use dating apps to meet her potential partner.

‘You don’t really understand what your actual chemistry is. You just get what game they play or what method they use. It’s just not the full picture.’

As for what she’s looking for in her dream man, the Golden Globe nominee stressed that “kindness and a sense of humor” are must-haves, before adding, “Right now it’s all about having fun.”
