The 45-year-old is 164 yards shy of 100,000, but when asked about that potential feat, he admitted he can’t do it without his teammates.

“I don’t think I can do anything in this competition without guys doing what they’re great at,” he said on Thursday.

“You either accept the challenge or you step up.

“Our great players have to come out and perform well. The guys who have played a lot of football should do better. That’s part of what leadership is all about. It drives people into practice. It tries to get a greater sense of urgency.

“When things go well, it feels really good and easy. When things don’t go well, it feels very difficult, like a challenge.

“It’s about whether you take up the challenge again, or you take up the challenge.”
