Musk’s Twitter is working on plans to charge for video content – potentially challenging PornHub

Elon Musk is reportedly working on plans to make users pay to watch video content on Twitter — which is already one of the few social media sites to allow nudity and pornography.
According to the Washington Post, an internal Twitter email obtained revealed the plans: “If a creator composes a tweet with a video, the creator can turn on the paywall once a video is added to the tweet.”
The proposed move would mean creators who already post explicit clips could set up their own paywalls and charge just $1 for people to view their X-rated footage.
Twitter is already home to a thriving pornographic image exchange, comprising about 13 percent of all content on the site, internal company data revealed earlier this year.
This comes after the billionaire Tesla CEO completed his $44 billion Twitter acquisition last week.
Earlier today, Musk said the plan for his social media platform is to make it the “most accurate source of information on the planet, regardless of political affiliation.”
He revealed his grandiose ambitions after a user was confused when he saw a fact check box pop up after clicking a tweet published by the official White House account.

Millions of Americans use PornHub every month, but Twitter also has a thriving pornographic community — which, according to reports, can now be monetized

The creator would then receive a sum of money – reportedly up to $10 – from each user who pays for their video content, with Twitter also getting an unspecified discount.
According to a mock-up of what the feature might look like, the content was hidden against the paywall, with a lock icon and a “watch for $1” message.
This is just one of the new overhauls that Elon Musk has proposed as his massive social media frenzy begins to take place.
But Twitter staff and users both have already expressed concerns that this feature will primarily be used to promote adult content – possibly rivaling PornHub, which sees millions of users per month.
The move could also see Twitter become like OnlyFans — where adults can pay to subscribe to their favorite explicit content creators, in many cases for a personalized pornographic experience.
A Twitter employee told the After that the feature would “probably be used at least in part for adult content.”
Twitter was contacted for comment, but did not respond immediately.
It comes as a new report last month showed that cryptocurrency and “not safe for work” content, including nudity and pornography, are the most growing areas of interest among English-speaking Twitter users.
Sensitive media on Twitter is faded out by default, but this isn’t necessarily the case with all the adult content in the app.
And the line with explicit content has recently been drawn on the social media platform.
Some major advertisers — including Dyson, Mazda, Forbes and PBS Kids — suspended their marketing campaigns or removed their ads from parts of Twitter in September because their promotions appeared alongside tweets requesting child pornography.

Some tweets contained keywords related to “rape” and “teenagers” and reportedly appeared alongside promoted tweets from corporate advertisers.
Like all social media platforms, Twitter bans images of child sexual exploitation, but generally allows adult content.
Musk also said earlier this week: “Twitter speaks to the inner masochist in all of us.”
This comes after the CEO confirmed that it will cost users $8 per month to have a verified blue check mark next to their account.
Musk added that those who sign up for the system “are given priority in replies, mentions and searches, which are essential to beat spam/scams, the ability to post long video and audio, half the number of ads, and paywall- bypass for publishers willing to work with us.’
The world’s richest man was previously fined $20 a month for blue check verification, but appeared to cut costs after criticism from horror author Stephen King.
Musk wants to fulfill his promise to make the social media platform a profit by introducing a fee for Twitter users who want to keep their verification badge.
