Karl Stefanovic as host of the Today show, drunk the morning after the 2009 Logies, is considered an iconic moment in Australian cultural history.

And the Channel Nine presenter was reminded of the memorable gaffe on Wednesday morning during an interview with Jamie Lovett, owner of Melbourne Cup-winning horse Gold Trip.

Stefanovic, 48, asked Lovett how he felt the day after his big win.

Joining us now – after a night of hard partying I suppose – is Melbourne owner Jamie Lovett. Good morning. How do you feel, tiger?’ he asked.

“Probably like you did that night after the Lodges!” Lovett responded without missing a beat.

“Okay, that’s good, isn’t it?” Stefanovic said before bursting out laughing.

Last September, Stefanovic revealed that he was really drunk – not just a hangover – when he appeared in a memorable episode of Today in 2009.

When he appeared on The Hundred with Andy Lee, the Today host admitted he was still drunk when he showed up at work after the night of TV nights.

He was handed a stack of cards with questions to the show’s panel of 100 everyday Australians.

‘In 2009 I supposedly arrived a bit tipsy at work after a big evening at the Logies. Do you think less of me after this?’ he asked.

Fifteen percent of people said they did, but comedian Tom Walker quickly got into Stefanovic’s defense.

“There’s nothing more charming than doing a bad job. It is well! Having a hangover doing your job…” he objected.

Stefanovic quickly corrected the joker and said, “Just to point out one point, I wasn’t hungover. I was still drunk.’

The now infamous Today broadcast saw Stefanovic slurp his words and laugh as his then co-host Lisa Wilkinson tried to regain control of the situation.

He later apologized for his controversial appearance and admitted he wasn’t “at my best” after a night of partying at the Logies.

“I think the first thing I have to say is that yes, it was a very big Logies evening, probably too big,” he said later in the broadcast.

“I didn’t feel drunk when I woke up the next morning or I wouldn’t have been deployed. I like to think I’m professional enough to have made that decision.

“But clearly from the vision I’ve seen, I wasn’t at my best and what I want to do is apologize to anyone who, uh, you know, offended by my behavior on Monday morning. So, humble apologies to all of you.”
